Hey there Canada! A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting Molly Burke, a spokesperson for Free The Children and Me to We Foundation. She is such an amazing girl with a heart touching story. Molly is a true role model for anyone who has ever been bullied or felt like they could not overcome life challenges. At a young age she was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a retinal disease that causes loss of vision. Her message to everyone is that any challenge in life, whether bullying, mental illness or loss of vision, can be overcome. Molly and I talked afterwards about her experiences with being a spokes person for Free The Children, she says it has been absolutely life changing. When she first started out raising money for this amazing charity her goal was $4000, she ended up raising double that because of her determination! Molly encouraged me to have determination as well; she gave me some great advice and wished me the best of luck on my journey to Miss Teen Canada-World, and making a positive change by raising money for Free The Children. As of May 1st I have begun the fundraising! I will be hosting an auction, coin drives, a raffle, placing coin jars in a couple of my sponsors’ buildings and fundraising at events I attend for the remainder of May and early June. Free The Children has always been an inspiring charity to me. As a young girl seeing those commercials on TV of third world countries – I have always been driven to help in any ways I could. We are so fortunate to live in a beautiful country where we have the access to food, water, clothing and education. Free The Children focuses on helping children in third world countries through education; for example building schools for children in less fortunate countries. Last year my high school’s Me to We group hosted fundraisers to build a well and a school for kids in Africa. I believe that with the right amount of determination, I can use my title as Miss Teen Chatham Kent-World 2013 to make a difference along with the help of my community. Together we can create change and build brighter futures for these children. The title holder of Miss Teen Canada-World becomes a spokesperson for Free The Children, attends We Day in Toronto, Ontario and has the opportunity of going on a mission trip! I feel that I would be great at representing Free The Children Organization positively because of how inspired I am by what they do, and it has always been a dream of mine to volunteer in a third world country – to help change our world one smile at a time. I am very excited to begin my fundraising for Free The Children charity, I would like to thank companies and individuals who have already donated to this cause and I encourage others to get involved, to help create change for children in third world countries. To find out how you can donate email me at: missteenchathakent2013@hotmail.com or visit my Facebook fan page for dates on events in Chatham-Kent where I will be fundraising for this amazing charity. We are the change ♥ – Miss Teen Chatham Kent-World 2013
