Hello from Jessica K, Miss Teenage Chatham-Kent Essex 2015!

I am so excited to go to Nationals! This has been such a thrilling experience so far, and I am ecstatic for what the future holds. Allow me to introduce myself… My name is Jessica K, and I am from Tilbury, Ontario! I’m currently 15 years old, but I’ll be turning 16 in less than a month (March 5th to be exact). I am Miss Teenage Chatham-Kent Essex 2015!

My favorite way to express myself is through art; painting, drawing, sketching, anything. I recently finished my 2nd year taking art at my current high school, with my awesome teacher Mr. Ostropolec! I intend on continuing to take art throughout high school, and possibly teach art classes as a co-op credit. After high school, I have plans to attend a University for fine arts, and potentially pursue a career involving art. Below is some of my artwork. Another way I express myself is through figure skating. I am a member at my local Figure Skating Club and I love it. When I go out on the ice I feel like I have no worries, and it really helps clear my mind when I need it. The coaches and skaters in the TFSC are all fantastic people; and I’m so glad to have them in my life!

This whole Miss Teenage Canada pageant thing is actually very out of the ordinary for me. I had never dreamed of being in a pageant, or striving to become Miss Teenage Canada. I actually saw an ad on Facebook about it, clicked into it, read a bit, watched a few videos, submitted an application and didn’t think much of it. Things got exciting when I ended up getting a call back; requesting an interview with Michelle Weswaldi (executive director). I was interviewed in November. Then, December 1st I received an email saying that I was selected as a delegate for Miss Teenage Canada 2015, and that I was to compete in Provincials in January! I was bewildered.

In the time leading up to Provincials, I fund-raised for Cardiac Kids; a charity that raises much-needed funds for children suffering from CHD (Congenital Heart Disease). With the help of my family, friends, and my amazing high school, I managed to raise $650 for Cardiac Kids!

Fundraising for Cardiac Kids with Tori and Rylee

I also had to pick out some attire for provincials. An evening gown, a black cocktail dress, swimwear, and some heels to be exact!

Thank-you to Enchantment Bridal and Formal Gowns for the beautiful gown!

Now that I’ve been crowned Miss Teenage Chatham-Kent Essex 2015, there are a lot of things that I would like to accomplish during my reign. One of the biggest things being volunteer work. I intend on putting myself ‘out there’ in my community as much as possible and making a difference in other’s lives.

So what else is there to know about me? I guess you’ll have to find out in my future blog posts – stay updated!

Hey there Canada! I can’t believe how the time has gone by! It was only July when I competed for Miss Teen Canada-World with all my sister queens, I miss everyone so much! Since the pageant my life has been pretty busy! This is a picture of me back home after nationals in Toronto – wearing my new and fabulous Costa Blanca dress! During the summer I went on a family trip with my grandma, uncles, aunt and cousins from Nova Scotia all the way to Florida – we stayed at the fountains resort in Orlando! We got to go to Disney World, Universal Studios and spend a day at Coco Beach. I really enjoyed spending time with my family and meeting new friends on my Florida adventure!

I have to say that September really did come faster than I expected! I’ve been very busy at my new job as a cosmetician at shoppers drug mart and I’ve done a couple more photo shoots including a photo shoot with my sister queen Tatiana (Miss Teen Essex-County 2013) and commercials with my sponsors at Gold Coast Fashions! It’s finally my senior year of high school, and on October 1st I celebrated my 17th birthday! So far, this semester I got the chance to plan my school’s annual semi-formal (masquerade theme) and represent my school as the arts minister on the student council! Of course being a pageant girl I have to say I am looking very forward to my senior prom – but that is about another semester away! A couple weekends ago I had the most amazing experience at We Day in Waterloo,Ontario! Myself, Tatiana (Miss Teen Essex County-World), Selena Wand (Miss Teen Grey County-World), Mackenzie Campbell (Miss Teen Southern Ontario-World) and Tricia Braunstein (Miss Teen South-western Ontario-World) all attended the event together and sat in the V.I.P seats! It was so much fun getting to spend the day with my Ontario girls – we’ve become such great friends since meeting at provincials almost a whole year ago now! As you may know, on our journeys to Miss Teen Canada-World 2013 we each raised money for the charity Free The Children, so it was so great to see that we made that much pf a difference for children in third world countries and got to be a part of something so amazing. I plan to continue helping out with Free The Children through Me To We – and may possibly be going on a Me To We trip in the near future to build a school! I am very excited for what the future has to offer!

Are You The Next Miss Teen Canada World?

The 2014 search is on! It’s not too late to apply girls – this is a once in a life time experience, where myself and many others created new memories and made the best of friends! This is your chance to represent your towns, provinces, territories and country as positive role models! Ontario girls – I will be meeting you at provincials on January 25th and 26th 2014 in Toronto! If you have any questions at all or need help before the pageant or maybe even afterwards please feel free to send me a message! I will be leaving you all my links below! I’m so excited for all of you applying and can’t wait to meet you all in January!

Melanie Renaud, Miss Teen Chatham Kent-World here – reporting to you live from the much music studio! Just kidding, although I did have a lot of fun last week, along with memories that will last a life time. Last week I went off on an adventure like no other – I had absolutely no idea what I was getting in to before applying last year, but all i know is that I wouldn’t trade one second of my experience at Miss Teen Canada-World 2013 for the world. On July 20th 2013 I competed for the title of Miss Teen Canada-World 2013 along side 64 of the most gorgeous, smart and good hearted girls I’ve ever met! One thing that brings a smile to my face is the fact that in that week alone that I spent there, I became so close with these girls – I may not have been blessed with sisters growing up but through the pageant I can now say I have 64 beautiful sisters and life time friends. A big congratulations to Jill Martin – formally known as the beautiful Miss Teen Saskatchewan and now our new Miss Teen Canada-World 2013! Myself, Tatiana and Jill put on a little performance of the cup song by Anna Kendrick from “Pitch Perfect” at breakfast time before hitting the CN Tower in the morning! It was great getting to know this girl, along with all the new friends I’ve made from all over Canada! We are all so proud of Jill and I wish her nothing but the best in her reign! 😀

What were my favourite highlights of the week at MTCW2013?

To be honest, the whole week itself was a highlight! But if I did have to choose 3 highlights during the week I would have to pick the following three.

Meeting Luke Bilyk was for sure a highlight during my week at Miss Teen Canada-World 2013. Luke hosted the pageant along side Gina Omilon, Miss Teen Red Deer 2012! Not only did we get to meet Luke and Gina during rehearsals but we also got to know them backstage. I think it’s really cool how Luke Bilyk may be an amazing actor – playing Drew Torres from Degrassi, but he’s also a great guy, who’s funny and down to earth! I also loved getting to meet Gina – she’s so inspiring with what she has been doing in the past year! Gina Omilon is currently studying at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in Los Angeles,California! I hope one day I can be as successful as our amazing hosts Luke & Gina.

My singing performance at the Talent Gala night was another highlight for me! I love musical theater and Disney princesses so my talent was just as much fun to prepare as to perform. I dressed up as Belle from Beauty & The Beast in a costume my grandma had made for me and sang the song “Change In Me” from Broadway’s Beauty & The Beast. My vocals teacher and I had been working on this song for months and I was very happy with the final performance! I have uploaded a video of my talent as well as a few other video clips from the week on to my official YouTube account: ThePageantDiaries a clip of my singing was also played during my interview with Radio-Canada!

We had so much fun during the week that time just flew by! We got to see the CN tower, appear on breakfast television and new music live (muchmusic), visit the Toronto zoo, shop at the Eaton center and have a royal feast at the Toronto castle! My third highlight of the week would most definitely have to be dining at the Toronto Castle, I have never seen anything like it before! Daring sword fights, knights in shining armor and not to mention spectacular food! Something really fun about it was the fact that in medieval times… we eat with our hands 😉 bye bye dinner table manners! But let’s be honest, with food this good who really needs a fork and knife? Kennedy, Tatiana, Jackqueline and I sat together for the royal feast and caught a beautiful white carnation from our beloved yellow knight!

My stunning “twin” Tatiana has become one of my best friends through this experience and the great part is that we actually only live less than an hour away from each other! I am so glad I met her, and I’m pretty sure my little brother is still dying to meet her… he has the sweetest little crush on her! Tatiana, Miss Teen Essex County-World 2013 and I are planning on doing a photo shoot together sometime soon while we both still hold our titles! 🙂

What’s next for Miss Teen CK 2013?

A great thing about being a part of the Miss Teen Canada-World pageant, is that the experience has opened doors to so many new opportunities. I’d like to become more involved in acting, performing arts and modeling world – I’d also like to continue to be a role model in my community and inspire girls nation wide. I loved being able to promote a platform that means so much to me and to feel like I can make a positive difference in other girls’ lives by sharing my story as well as the MTCW motto – “Be your own kind of beautiful.” Michelle and Christi have been such great mentors and have taught me so much since I became Miss Teen Chatham Kent-World, It’s really been a growing experience for me and I cannot thank them enough! I’d like to thank everyone who has inspired, motivated and supported me through this incredible journey. Miss Teen Ontario-World was the first pageant I have ever done, and for that I am honored to have placed top 10 at the national pageant – Miss Teen Canada-World 2013! Many people have asked me what my plans are for the future in terms of pageants and if I will continue in pageantry. My answer to that is without a doubt yes! I’ve learned so much from my experience with MTCW and it’s a chance to meet so many amazing people, while representing my beautiful country, Canada. I would love the chance to compete at an international pageant in the near future. Miss Teen Canada-World holds the exclusive rights and licenses to send a contestant to an international competition of their choosing. They select girls each year from national rosters to compete – these girls get to travel the world and represent their great nation of Canada! Millie Rong – China and Aspen Sierra Dudzic – Canada are MTCW alumni and were both sent to compete and represent Miss Teen Canada-World at Miss Teenager in Panama! I think that the experience of an international pageant would be absolutely amazing! Another pageant I would also love to do is Miss Universe Canada, of course that is a few years away for me as I am still only 16. On the bright side that gives me time to train and who knows where I will be by then – the future is full of excitement and opportunity! Next year I’d like to help out at the 2014 nationals and maybe even appear at the provincials pageant where they will crown Miss Teen Ontario 2014 – applications can now be sent in online! Email: apply@missteencanadaworld.com and request the forms! For now, I still have my title until next January and I will be starting my senior year of high school in the fall. It’s crazy to think of how much I’ve grown and learned in just a year, the things I’ve done within the year and all the great friends I’ve made along the road to Miss Teen Canada-World 2013. These are memories I will take with me and remember forever, but one thing I know for sure is that even though this pageant is over, by taking part in Miss Teen Canada-World, the experience has given me so much and there is so much more ahead of me… I’m excited to say that it’s not the end – it’s only the beginning. – Melanie Renaud, Miss Teen CK 2013

What an exciting first day it has been – I’m here at the Holiday Inn hotel in Toronto, Ontario with my new room mate Kara Fillion, Miss Teen Hearst-World 2013! Kara and I have a lot in common – we both speak fluent french, love fashion and work at pizza places! It’s so fun having her as a room mate – Stay tuned for a very special surprise from Miss Teen Chatham-Kent and Miss Teen Hearst this workout Wednesday! I can’t believe I’m already here in Toronto, competing for the Miss Teen Canada-World crown! It feel likes just yesterday I was crowned Miss Teen CK among all my other beautiful sister queens. Tatiana  – Miss Teen Essex County-World and I left early in the morning on our way to Toronto – on the road to Miss Teen Canada-World 2013! We were so excited but it was hard leaving our cats to stay home, we almost had to pack my cat because he decided to hop into my suitcase! When we arrived in Toronto, it was surreal! I immediately saw my sister queens from the Ontario pageant and catch up with them, I also had the pleasure of meeting such kind, beautiful and smart girls from all over Canada! I finally got to see girls I have been talking to for months online – in person for the very first time! I already feel close and at home here and very excited for what tomorrow and the rest of the week will bring! After Kara and I were all ready and set to go, Christi personally picked us up from our rooms to go down to the welcome party! Here at the holiday inn it is very important for girls to wait for a chaperone to pick them up so that they can make sure no one is missing! At the welcome party the delegates had the opportunity to meet our amazing sponsors! Hi-Tech Canada is sponsoring the MTCW2013 girls with super fabulous runners for our workout on Tuesday! Tatiana and I are posing in front of the Hi-Tec Canada sign with our new running shoes! PS by Pretty Sweet prepared custom cookies for the delegates that looked and tasted delicious! There was a tanning demonstration being done and a Free The Children information booth! Our sponsors gave out samples of their trendy hair products – the after shine is perfect for any day and anywhere! 😀 I look forward to another successful and fun day tomorrow as we prepare for interview, video shoot and photo shoot! Wish me luck and stay up to date with Miss Teen Canada-World 2013 updates on my Facebook and twitter! Keep voting online everyone!  lots of love – Miss Teen CK-WORLD 2013

Well it’s official, I leave for Miss Teen Canada-World tomorrow in Toronto! It has been so much hard work but ultimately worth it – I feel that this experience as Miss Teen Chatham-Kent has been life changing and I have learned so much while meeting amazing people and of course having fun! There’s so much more to pageant life then the glitz and glamour – it is a positive experience where I can use my title to make the world a better place. I had the chance to promote a platform to help girls with self esteem and talk about my struggles and how I overcame them when I visited local elementary schools as Miss Teen Chatham Kent-World. With my title, I raised money for one of the most inspirational charities that I have always wanted to lend my contributions to – Free The Children Foundation. Miss Teen CK also helped out with the epilepsy support event and fundraiser and Relay for life raising money for cancer research. Through the Miss Teen Canada-World pageant I have already gotten to meet so many amazing girls, who help each other through every detail from a spray tan question to friendly advice – I can honestly call my sister queens true sisters. I’m excited to announce that myself and the beautiful Tatiana Maranhao, Miss Teen Essex County-World – will be driving up together to Toronto! I’m so excited to see her again, as well as all the other delegates! I can’t believe it’s already here, where has the time gone? I’d like to thank my family, friends, my sister queens, wonderful sponsors and all of my supporters! I couldn’t have made it this far without you and I am so grateful for everything you have done to help me on my journey. Don’t forget to pick up your copy of the Chatham daily news Saturday July 13th for information on how you can vote for the next Miss Teen Canada-World! I hope to make you all proud this week! I will be posting updates and YouTube vlogs of my journey to the final night July 20th 2013 and who knows, I might just have the honour of representing my beautiful country as the new Miss Teen Canada-World, thank you everyone and lots of love from your home town princess – Melanie Renaud, Miss Teen CK 2013

Happy Canada D’EH! As you all know July 1st was our country’s national birthday! Here in Chatham,Ontario, we celebrated Canada Day in style! There were festivities all day throughout Tecumseh park, as well as a parade that began around 4pm! I had the pleasure of participating in the park festivities as well as our annual Canada Day parade! I met so many great people with such pride in our country as well as this beautiful little princess standing beside me – we both wore red dresses to show our Canadian spirit! 😀 I arrived on the scene around 3:15pm to prepare for the Canada Day parade! I’d like to give a big thanks to Lanoue Sales Service and Leasing for kindly supplying their vehicle for me to ride in the parade. The magical part of the day was that it finally stopped raining as the parade began! Parades are always so much fun – and it really never gets old hearing kids call you a princess! I’d like to thank my amazing sponsors, Carrie Visser who applied my makeup and Catherine from Saffron Salon who styled my hair for the day! My hair and makeup sponsors have helped me out so much these past months for both photo shoots and events! After the parade, I had the honour of cutting our national birthday cake along side Rick Nicholls our M.P.P and Dave Van Kesteren our M.P! For such a big cake – we could ensure there would be a piece for everyone! I had the chance to meet up with Brooklyn Roebuck and cheer her on singing our beautiful national anthem! It was great to have her attend, as well as TV COGECO who joined us on Canada Day and interviewed me on the scene! During the interview, I had the opportunity to talk about events I have gone to throughout these past months and how exciting it is to be Miss Teen CK – the Canada day celebration was very fun and I’m so fortunate to live in such a supportive community. We ended off our Canadian birthday with a super fire works show to complete the night! 😀 Thank you Chatham-Kent for such an amazing day and happy birthday Canada! – Miss Teen Ck 2013

2013 Miss Teen Canada – World Blog Network, Assignment Number Three

Good lovely morning Canada! Miss Teen CK here – and I’d like to give a big thank you to Signature Towels for graciously sponsoring the Miss Teen Canada-World delegates in our third official blog assignment! For this assignment, delegates were asked to imagine what their vision would be for a 30 second commercial TV spot! I have modeled for TV commercials before, however, I loved the chance to experience the making of a commercial from the other side of the camera – It was a very exciting challenge! To begin the creative process, I envisioned myself in the position of a marketing company executive and incorporated my inner creative marketing skills to put together a visual and context idea of a commercial that would engage all kinds of audiences to purchase personalized towels.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION So here’s the big idea: Imagine that it’s finally summer vacation – and what better way to kick off the summer break then a fun filled road trip! Hanging out at the beach, having campfires by the lake or even going to an amusement & water park with friends or family! My vision is to incorporate summer activities to portray that there is something for everyone by showing a variety of settings, actors (families, individuals, friends) and activities – where personalized towels could be found during the summer break. I decided to break down the 30 seconds into different scenes where I could display my vision of the perfect, personalized summer experience to the best of my ability.

Scene ONE – Scene one begins on a beautiful Canadian beach setting – Four bright coloured beach chairs with fun personalized towels resting on top. Four teenagers run from the chairs into the lake while music will be playing softly in the background and then transition into pumped up music when the four teenagers run off towards the water. This first scene will set the summer tone for viewers! In this scene the camera will show 2-4 second clips of a road trip scene to the beach, campfires and swimming in the lake.

Scene TWO – The second scene will transition to a little boy that splashes the camera and a little girl drying the camera with her signature towel! At this moment my idea was to direct the viewers to a sports summer element. The commercial will show different sports at the beach – volleyball, tether ball, soccer etc… After a long game its great to jump in the water and then dry off with your very own signature towel!

Scene THREE – For the third scene I decided to display a change in setting: from the beach to an amusement and water park! The camera will come up on an individual going down a huge water slide with a great view of the park – The individual’s friend will hand him a personalized towel when he reaches the end point of the slide with a splash! The camera will then close up on some kids that are using the towels as superhero capes around the water park.

Scene FOUR – The setting returns back to the beach at sunset with a family sitting on their personalized towels as the sun goes down and fire works light up the sky! A perfect way to ending the perfect signature summer!

Scene FIVE: FINAL SCENE – At the very end of the commercial words will come on screen reading: “What will your signature summer be?” or “How will you live your signature summer?” This will link viewers to twitter by hash tagging their personalized summer experiences! Example: hashtag #mysignatureexperience or #signaturesummer on twitter for a give a way – such as products or a family trip, sponsored by Signature Towels! Engaging the world through the social media will most definitely create hype for both the products and the company!

Signature towels are great homonogrammed towels, plush towel, cottonuse warming, graduation and wedding gifts! These high quality monogrammed towels convey a personal touch which the recipient will love! A big thanks again to Signature towels for sponsoring the Miss Teen Canada-World 2013 delegates, and if signature towels ever does choose to create a TV spot for their company – I’m sure the Miss Teen girls would love to help and be a part of the commercial!
