Hey Canada, I CAN’T BELIEVE I’M GOING TO NATIONALS! Allow me to introduce myself, My name is Melanie Renaud and I am honored to be the new Miss Teen Chatham-Kent. I’m an outgoing sixteen year old girl from Chatham-Kent, Ontario. I am a competitive dancer, student council member, french immersion student and lancer link leader! I love singing, dancing, writing, art, fashion, modeling, volunteering in my community, traveling and hanging out with friends. It is truly a dream to be a delegate in the 2013 Miss Teen Canada-World pageant. I have met so many amazing girls with great morals and aspirations, all trying to make a positive difference in the world. As Miss Teen C-K my goals are to inspire girls, as a positive role model by sharing my platform to promote self confidence and a positive self image for girls and young women. I will also be raising money for the inspirational charity Free The Children, which I am very driven to help.
Ever since I was a little girl I have wanted to be an actress. I have always had a love for the performing arts: Singing, Dancing and of course acting. I grew up watching musicals and movies – I used to pretend I was Ariel from the little mermaid singing part of your world on my toy box (because people don’t have random gigantic rocks in their living rooms.. ). I now find myself years later singing in public, dancing competitively at a studio and being a part of my school musicals!
ALWAYS ON HER TOES – Walking on my toes was something I did because my legs are slightly different lengths and for some reason it was a natural response to walk like that. There were downfalls and it was a disadvantage because I was made fun of for the way I walked… But when I danced it was like everything else disappeared… My strange tip toe walking actually was useful in dance- rather than being made fun of, this “imperfection” of walking on my toes actually made me a better dancer. I have been a dancer since I first enrolled at a local studio at the age of four.. and it is now a big part of my life! My classes started out with ballet, then I tried tap and musical theatre, lyrical, jazz, hip hop and began dancing on the competitive team at the age of 10. I now do all types of dance competitively! I love the spotlight and I find that dancing is a talent I would not trade in for the world! It is a way to express myself and have fun at the same time. My personal favourite type of dance is lyrical.
A change in me – about my platform
My platform as Miss Teen Chatham Kent-World 2013, is to promote self confidence and a positive self image for girls and young women. There was a time in my life where I struggled with self image and self esteem. I was told I was too tall, I had bad skin and even was made to think I was overweight at the young age of twelve. I thought the absolute least of myself and so I had no self confidence either. The media told me that I wasn’t perfect, but what is perfect anyway? With the help of my Papa, I learned how to love myself. I learned to love myself for all my imperfections because they made me who I am today. By embracing my imperfections, I found my own kind of beautiful within myself. I now live a healthy lifestyle both physically and mentally- by eating right, exercising, doing the things i love and most importantly having a positive self image. My goal is to be a positive role model and inspire girls to “be their own kind of beautiful.” Life as a girl isn’t always going to be easy, but you’ll find it’s worth the while if you just face the world with a smile.
On this blog you will learn a little bit about me, my platform, events I attend and my journey to Miss Teen Canada! The experience so far has been life changing and I am very excited to share this journey with all of you! Remember to always face the world with a smile – Miss Teen C-K-World ♥
